Edwin Drood MA, BSc, is a professional writer "of a certain age", currently living in Belgium. He describes himself as a "free radical fogey", which means that his views on some aspects of life can be found well to the left of Marx, while in other matters he’s slightly to the right of Genghis Kahn.
He studied political horticulture and dialectic existentialism in The Hague before travelling the world for seven years in a 60-foot clipper crewed entirely by student nurses.
He has never owned a dog, cat, or other domestic animal, not even a goldfish, as he considers it a form of colonialism. He gets up every day at 6:00 am. After breakfasting on a litre of strong coffee and two croissants, he subsists for the rest of the day largely on a diet of cheddar cheese and hot pickles. He is generally a socialist in the morning and a conservative by nightfall; this may be due to the cheese, the pickles or both.
He has never married, despite considerable physical attributes, a royal blue 1963 Alvis TD 21, a private income and a degree in clinical neurology from Cambridge. The last woman to spend more than a week with him left saying "I love him madly, of course, but Edwin has an opinion on everything! Everything! You can’t possibly live with someone like that". Drood would be the first to wholeheartedly agree with this assessment.
