Part of the entrance from the North Hall of the Pergamon Athena Sanctuary to the Library. |
This is the reconstructed right section of the entrance from the upper storey of the North Hall of the Athena Sanctuary leading to the Pergamon Library.
The entrance was built of marble in the Doric style (see drawing below), circa 200-150 BC. The reconstruction, assembled from original fragments, is in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin.

1. Pergamene columns
This kind of Pergamene "palm leaf" column capital was also used in the stoa of the Trajaneum; in Athens, in the Stoa of Attalus II in the Ancient Agora and the Stoa of Eumenes II on the south slope of the Acropolis; and in a stoa built by Attalus I in Delphi.
