| Old prints and photos of Chora show the houses with flat roofs, typical of Greek island architecture. The modern inhabitants have replaced these with gable roofs covered by ceramic tiles. While these provide better drainage for rain and snow, they are more easily blown away by the strong winds which visit Samothraki. The islanders' practical if unorthodox solution to this problem is to cover the tiles with rocks. |
