Chora, Samothraki. Catnap. |
|
Between midday and around 5pm Greeks take their "siesta". Strange that, unlike the Spaniards, they have no special word for their afternoon nap.
Wandering around Chora during the afternoon all is peaceful. In summer the only noises are the bees bumbling around, the swallows screeching about and the occasional car or motorbike on the road far below the village. Are there cicadas up here? Can't remember. They are so common in Greece during the summer that sometimes you forget that they are there. After all, their song is not meant for us.
In the evening visitors to Samothraki, mostly Greeks, come up to Chora to enjoy the view and the cool evening breezes at Chora's cafés and tavernas. |
