It's uphill all the way from here.
If anybody ever tells you "The Cave of the Apocalypse is half way between Skala and the Monastery of Saint John," you should do at least one of the following:
1. Take a pinch of salt;
2. Take an extra bottle of water;
3. Take a taxi the rest of the way.
There is just no way that can be true! As if climbing up the zig-zag road to the Cave from Skala wasn't sufficient torture under the scorching August sun. And that was only a little over a kilometre. Now standing here, contemplating the ascending the next 3 or so kilometres and 150 metres in altitude to Hora and the monastery feels like mission impossible. I mean, I don't even know if they have any ice cream up there. What's my motivation for all this?
But there's absolutely no use complaining: you know you are going to do it.
So do it. Chocolate or vanilla? |
