Let's get cool in the pool. |

| After a long, hot day exploring the island, there's nothing like getting back to your hotel to enjoy a cold drink by the swimming pool as the sun sets like a giant peach. Hey where's everybody gone? Where are the waitresses? Serving the evening meal in the restaurant, that's where. Tomorrow, we'll bring our own drinks. |

Swallows continually swoop down and take on-the-wing sips from the swimming pool
to slake midsummer thirsts. The sparrows, always keen observers, thought this looked
like a good idea. First problem is, sparrows aren't very good swoopers. Hopping
they do very well. So, wait until the humans have gone for their siesta.
"All clear, lads!" And it's hop, hop, hop to the pool. Now comes the second problem:
the water smells strange. Chlorine, you see. So they stand around, waiting to see
who tries the water first. No takers? No Plan B? So they hop, hop, hop off again.
They'll be back tomorrow, same time, same performance. Birdbrains, you see.
And another thing ... Sceptical sparrows are simpler to snap than swooping swallows. |
