From the hill on the northwest side of Chora (see gallery page 33) it is possible to see down to the south coast of Samos at Cape Katsouni (Άκρα Κατσούνι, centre left of the photo, with the white buildings along the seafront) and to its left Cape Koukouras (Άκρα Κούκουρας), which is the closest point to the Turkish coast.
Across the 1.6 km wide Samos Strait rises Samsun Daği (Mount Mykale) on the Dilek Peninsula. See more photos and information on gallery page 29.
On the top of the hill to the right is the electricity generating windpark, east of Pythagorio, near Agias Triadas Monastery (η Μονή Αγίας Τριάδας, Monastery of the Holy Trinity). See gallery page 27. |
