"Wash and go" |
Greek peripteros are miniature corner stores which ostensibly sell newspapers, cigarettes, sweets and drinks, but can offer everything from ice cream, batteries and lightbulbs to watches, lighter flints, fusewire and toys.
Many of also have payphones, although the rapid spread of cell phones is rendering this service obsolete.
This kiosk carries advertising for the local laundry "Wash and Go". You may like to note the number of this laundrette in case you need clean clothes while visiting Veria:
Makis Ipethinos Tel: 25003
Veria welcomes happy launderers.
See quite another kind of kiosk on the next page. |
|
This is a pretty old-fashioned periptero, made of wood, and painted traditional periptero brown. Newer kiosk look like high-tech hypermarkets in comparison.
The periptero business is a tough one to get into, as the kiosks are often family-run and passed on from generation to generation. |
