The house, home to an old lady, is surrounded by modern concrete flats. This style of house can be found all around the Balkans and Turkey. When they are properly maintained and renovated they make handsome, comfortable homes. However, in many places they are being demolished to make way for multi-storey concrete apartment blocks, from which the owners can make more money. |

Typical of this style of house is the overhanging upper bay window,
supported by wooden struts. Note the chimney for the wood-fuelled
stove protruding fom the wall. |
